We did not easily defeat the British. In fact the laws of reality would say that. Yet America won it's independence from England and King George. This victory was miraculous, but our defeat to Vietnam was just the opposite. Our fighting power had changed even as our weapons had evolved. I suppose other forms of miracles were beginning. An example would be Star Trek. People joke about Trekies, but the books by James Blish and Gene Rodenbury are important. They indicate for me a rising nation in a falling world.
