I stumbled onto some interesting info that I can't explain easily, but this much..

Oakland California appears to have gotten more expensive, but the cost to Oakland appears to be greater than the economic cost?!!

Meanwhile in San Francisco California the same thing appears to be happening to a bit smaller degree!!!

I had no idea that this was the case.  If you look at the City of Palo Alto in the Bay Area everything scores great except it is way too expensive.

In San Francisco there are other issues that make the city number much lower than Palo Alto.

Oakland looks like a case study of this freakanomics.
