I can't think of anything more important than good sci fi and space exploration.

100% convinced it is now essential.

Poetry gets a lift from this and is hurt with out science.

They are connected, yes, more than you would expect.  Also include music.  

Music needs lots of math about the universe and exploration of the cosmos.
