Poetry is the best way to communicate certain things and is not the language of unreason or the irrational.
Most folk music is poetry so I fail to see your point anyway.
Would removing David and Mark from the bible give you a good feeling?
Is it the realm of smart people in the English Major to analyze the works of people who must be a bit mad or nuts for writing poetry?
Or perhaps to write some poetry while studying poetry might be great for English Majors.
I know this did not happen for me when I was an English major and graduated with a 3.25 GPA.
