Besides my father's intense interest in astronomy and astrophysics:

Seeing a super nova happen and the missing star and seeing a moving black hole on a video got my goat.  Then I was hooked.

 There is more to my reality then the geography I am familiar with.  That gets kind of liberating after a while.

And the questions have layers of meaning sometimes.  Questioning reality is not easy at first, but that too is liberating.
