I would read five special poems knowing the poetry was a kind of magic. And was in some ways more real than normal language. Later I gave up on a career as a New York playwright to continue writing poetry. It felt better than feeling that I had multiple personalities. My theatre expressed things that were subtle but rather intense reminders of what can happen behind closed doors. It can be a frightening yet oblivious kind of dangerous world. Poetry on the hand was a lighter more flexible form. Eventually it felt that like a poem could explore and do anything. I was having lots of fun and continue to.
